Ways to Attach a Bookshelf to the Wall
A bookshelf can be a very useful addition to your home. If it is not properly secured in place though, it can topple over and injure someone. Additionally, if it falls then for sure it would get damaged along with your books. All these will surely cost you money and result to frustration. So, it is imperative that you make sure your bookshelf is securely installed, and here are some tips to help you.
First, move your bookshelf away from the wall so that you can go to the back side. Prepare your tape measure and list down the width and height of the bookshelf. Make sure to measure all angles. Next, find the studs in the wall behind your bookshelf with the stud finder. By using a pencil, mark the location of each stud. Then, measure and mark a piece of half-inch thick wood. The wood's thickness ensures that the bookshelf can have a support that is strong enough to hold its weight.
After this, get a skill saw to cut the wood to size. Use a Makita cordless drill and a 1/16-inch drill bit to drill holes through the half inch-thick piece of wood, one-half inch from the edges, every four inches. Do that around the entire wood perimeter to create a support for the bookshelf. Next, align the edges of the wood that has been cut to size, making sure that they are even. Use again a Makita cordless drill to insert an inch of wood screws in the holes. Lastly, push the bookshelf against the wall. Make sure that they are in the right location and remember where you place the studs. Get your Makita cordless drill again and two-inch wood screws to secure your bookshelf to the wall.
