"As someone who owns a home and enjoys that odd dabble in DIY, I really do value a great tool when I see one, and as such forked out for a previous version of this very tool around three years ago. I really needed a cordless drill and Makita turned out to be a great little workhorse, handling most jobs I could throw at it from around the house.
 
The Makita 6217DWDE 12-volt NiMH 3/8-inch Cordless Drill/Driver is extremely lightweight and is therefore ideal just to grab whenever the need arises. It makes mincemeat of all the typical DIYers jobs around the house – things such as hanging picture frames, assembling furniture, all that kind of stuff.

These Makita cordless drills are so well designed that even the direction switch can easily be reached by a finger; in saying that though, it never gets in the way. As well as this, the gear shift is actually on the top of the drill, helping reduce any accidental gear changes. As for the speed controls, well, these are extremely precise, and as soon as you take your finger off the trigger the drill stops instantaneously. It has a great slimline body which allows the drill to be used even in the tightest of spots and because it is so light, it can be held and controlled at arm’s length without any fatigue issues at all.

My drill really came into its own though when I had to replace the decking in the back yard. I replaced it with some Trex composite lumber and used the drill to not only pre-drill the holes, but to also drive the screws in across the whole 300 square feet of decking. The power output was great and there were no issues at all insofar as the battery was concerned. When the first battery ran out and was put onto charge and replaced by the second, by the time that ran flat the first battery had already fully charged!

At the end of the day, unless you are a professional that really, really needs lots of run time and power, this Makita cordless drill has everything you could ever need in this type of tool."
